قال متحدث باسم الحكومة اليونانية اليوم الثلاثاء إن حريق غابات مستعر شرقي العاصمة أثينا قتل أكثر من 70 شخصا وأصاب ما يزيد عن 118 بينهم 16 طفلا، نقل 11 منهم إلى المستشفى في حالة حرجة.

وعثرت السلطات صباح هذا الثلاثاء على 26 جثة في منتجع ماتي داخل حديقة فيلا يتوقع أن تكون لأفراد عائلة كاملة، كما لقي 24 شخصا حتفهم يوم الاثنين في المنتجع ذاته.

وقال نيكوس إكونوموبولوس رئيس الصليب الأحمر اليوناني للتلفزيون “عثرنا على 26 جثة متفحمة بين منزلين”.

رئيس بلدية رافينا إيفانغيلوس بورنوس قال إن “عدد القتلى يرتفع… وتجاوز بالفعل الستين”.

ويكافح أفراد الإطفاء في اليونان عدة حرائق قرب أثينا منذ أكثر من 12 ساعة. وسجل أكبر عدد من القتلى والمصابين في منطقة ماتي.

وقال المتحدث الحكومي ديمتريس تساناكوبولوس في بيان بثه التلفزيون “هذه للأسف أكبر أعداد للمصابين والقتلى. أناس لم يستطيعوا المغادرة وكانوا محاصرين في منازلهم أو سياراتهم”.
