بعد يومين من هزة أرضية قوية في المنطقة نفسها، ضرب زلزال ثان جنوب ولاية كاليفورنيا مساء الجمعة بلغت قوته 7,1 درجات، حسبما أعلن المعهد الأمريكي للجيوفيزياء. ومنذ الخميس، تشهد المنطقة هزات ارتدادية وصل عددها إلى 1200، كما حذر المعهد من وقوع سلسلة من الزلازل. وعلى الرغم من أن هذا الزلزال هو الأقوى منذ العام 1994 إلا أنه لم يتم بعد الإبلاغ عن سقوط ضحايا.

أعلن المعهد الأمريكي للجيوفيزياء أن زلزالا بلغت قوته 7,1 درجات جنوب ولاية كاليفورنيا الأمريكية الجمعة بعد يومين على هزة أرضية قوية في المنطقة نفسها.

ويمكن أن تتسم هذه الهزة الجديدة بقوة تدميرية أكبر بإحدى عشرة مرة من تلك التي ضربت صباح الخميس منطقة ريدجكريست على بعد نحو 240 كلم شمال شرق لوس أنجلس. وقد بلغت شدتها 6,4 درجات على مقياس الشدة الآني.
