الفتح على الإمام هو (تصحيح خطئه وتذكيره ما نسي أثناء القراءة أو تلقينه إذا سكت في الصلاة)، ويسمى: (إطعام الإمام)، وهو سنة في الصحيح من أقوال العلماء في الفرض والنفل، روي عن عثمان وعلي وابن عمر رضي الله عنهم وبه قال عطاء والحسن وابن سيرين وجماعة من السلف، وكرهه ابن مسعود وشريح والشعبي والثوري، وقال أبو حنيفة وابن حزم تبطل الصلاة به؛ لأنه كلام بلا حاجة.
